“Not Without A Purpose, Not Without A Fight!” – the motto of the energetic Street Dogs. These dogs have plenty of fight, when you go see them, be sure to wear your comfortable shoes because you are going to be jumping and/or moshing! The band’s frontman is singer Mike McColgan, a veteran of the (first) Gulf War and original frontman of Boston’s infamous DROPKICK MURPHY’S. Mike’s career as a fireman evolved into a full-time music career with the Street Dogs where he is able to express himself creatively as the band continues to make real music for real people. The other members of the band are Johnny Rioux (Bass), Marcus Hollar (Guitar), Lenny Lashley (Guitar), and Pete Sosa (Drums). Being from Boston, you can imagine this is the perfect band to see on St. Patrick’s Day weekend!
The concert set list included all of the favorites you would hope to hear, including popular songs like Yesterday and my favorite Up The Union. One of the most memorable moments of the evening was when a young kid in the audience (riding the shoulders of his dad), was able to work his way to the front of the audience where he met up with the stage security. As he was being lifted out of the audience by security, Mike reached down and pulled him onto the stage. Once on the stage, the kid sang along and fist-pumped as the band performed. Before the song ended, to everyone’s surprise, the kid run’s toward the audience and leaps off the stage onto the raised hands of the enthusiastic crowd.
