Imagine eating a delicious fresh-baked scone or a freshly-made marshmallow, and enjoying a hand-crafted, Italian dark roast espresso, while watching a professional chef give a free cooking demonstration, in a spectacular show kitchen. After the demonstration, shop from an amazing variety of culinary tools and appliances from companies like Viking and Breville. Now imagine this unique culinary shop is located just yards away from a sparkling mountain lake in the Big Bear Lake Village. This is the story of, The Copper Q.
The Copper Q, named after her eldest daughter Quinn, is the creation of Linda Ricchiuti Stalcup. After twenty years in education and countless years of commuting from the resort town of Big Bear Lake, in the San Bernardino mountains to work with school districts across the state, Linda decided it was time to sell her part of a thriving software development company and figure out a plan to stay closer to her family. The plan came in the form of a dream business, called The Copper Q.
The Copper Q, located in the Big Bear Lake Village, is part espresso shop, part bakery, part high-end kitchen retail, and part culinary classroom. All of the parts together create a unique store with a modern dynamic energy and a vintage feel. Growing up in the kitchen and spending time with family and food, is how Linda describes her childhood. The Copper Q is an extension of home and a place to gather around the table again, taste new foods, make friends and maybe even learn to cook.
Completely renovating a 42 year-old, dilapidated building, The Copper Q was reconstructed using as many recycled products as possible. The Copper Q is green from the outside in. The paper cups, plates, utensils, retail bags, and countless other items are as green as possible. The thirteen-seat show kitchen boasts an enormous kitchen island made of recycled glass. Guests gather around the Show Kitchen as Pastry Chef, Carla Segrest, instructs and shares stories. Carla gives away all the best tips and secrets for creating the perfect pastries. The Copper Q scones, cupcakes, quiche, salads, and other delights are prepared fresh daily. Just like sitting at home around the family table, guests relax, laugh, eat and make good friends. The recipes are shared with guests at the demonstration as well as with the world in The Copper Q Recipe Box on the store’s website www.CopperQ.com. Located in the center of the retail store, The Copper Q Show Kitchen is often the stage for Guest Chefs, cooking classes, wine dinners and charity events.
Whatever event is happening at The Copper Q, arrive early and feel free to stay late. There is always a seat at the table for friends and family.
