In the fall of 2003, Mike and Julie Hastings returned home after a mandatory fire evacuation to find their building, leased by an Italian restaurant, completely abandoned. Left with their property in disarray, Julie quickly decided that she was ready for a new challenge and that she would try her hand at the restaurant business. Mike, having operated a successful construction company in Big Bear for over 25 years, went to work on the remodel and restoration process, while Julie began work on a new name, a new menu, and the most important task of all, finding an extraordinary chef. In less than two months, the newly named Peppercorn Grille opened for business.

Born and raised in Big Bear, Julie knew just what her community needed: a restaurant that would produce consistently great food, a professional and friendly staff, and a clean, intimate environment. She has achieved just that with the Peppercorn Grille. Since its opening, the restaurant has established its reputation as being the number one choice for dining in Big Bear. Julie continues to set high standards for her restaurant and finds support from her reliable staff who share in her vision.
