Team Nikos Basketball Academy is Orange County’s largest youth basketball organization, offering multiple programs for all levels, from beginner to elite, 2nd grade through high school. Their professional staff of former-player coaches and trainers appeal to a wide audience with a variety of programs. They offer year-round club teams; Academy 2.0, a training division; private one-on-one/small group training; specialized camps; and an NJB recreational program.
Founded in 2007 by Steve Williams and Jameel Mahmud, friends and former Division 1 collegiate players who shared a clear vision of creating a unique and dynamic basketball experience for competitive young hoopers, TNBA’s club program has grown from two teams to over 30 teams, with eight AAU National Championship titles earned along the way. Williams, the organization’s President & CEO, explains, “We focus on teaching the fundamentals of basketball, as well as core character principles, with the belief that we are helping to shape the whole child, on and off the court.” The program serves boys and girls, 2nd grade through high school with coaches who promote commitment, resilience, dedication, and teamwork. The club’s motto is “One team, one unit,” and Williams goes on to say, “Our athletes don’t just play with each other, they play for each other.”
After years of holding practices at different area gyms, Team Nikos Basketball Academy is proud to call the brand new Ladera Sports Center their home. The 63,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art sports facility, located in the heart of Ladera Ranch, features eight full-size basketball courts with automated drop-down hoops, superior maple wood flooring, noise-reduction systems, and video cameras to record training sessions and games for live webcasts and post-workout review. The facility, which is also solar-powered and fully air-conditioned, offers Wi-Fi, and an All-Star cafe for the convenience of the athletes and guests. Team Nikos is unique in having home-court advantage in this first-class sports center, allowing its program to have consistent practice and training times throughout the season.
The Team Nikos Basketball Academy 2017/2018 club season begins in September, with tryouts at the Ladera Sports Center on August 29th and 31st for 2nd through 8th grades. The new season will comprise carefully selected team rosters, dynamic leadership, exciting competition and Team Nikos’ Academy 2.0, which takes player training to the next level with intense drill sequences and exercises to improve ball-handling, footwork, court awareness and overall player performance.
During school holidays, Team Nikos Basketball Academy offers camps to youth players throughout the community. The multi-day sessions provide a fun basketball experience for all levels of players. In 2017/2018, camps will be offered over Thanksgiving, Winter holiday, Spring and Summer school breaks.
For players that enjoy competitive basketball in a fun and recreational arena without the time commitment and/or intensity of club play, Team Nikos Basketball Academy also offers the Ladera Ranch NJB program. It takes a volunteer community to run LRNJB, from head and assistant coaches to team moms and picture day organizers. LRNJB’s success can be attributed to generous families who invest time and energy in making the program top-notch. Currently, the Winter season registration is available to boys and girls (with an All-Girls Division), Kindergarten through 8th grade, and runs November 18th to February 24th, with up to two weekly practices and one-weekend game held at the Ladera Sports Center. Early Bird registration ends on September 6. The 2018 calendar will bring Spring and Summer LRNJB seasons; Spring season opens on March 13th and the Summer league begins on May 13th.
