Truckee ~ Four Seasons of Fun

If you’re craving an outdoor adventure, you’ve come to the right place. There are plenty of things to do in Truckee-Tahoe during any time of the year. This quaint little part of the world is known for unparalleled access to world-class mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, skiing and riding. Whether you’re visiting in spring, summer, fall, or winter, we promise you’ll have a blast!

    THE CEDAR HOUSE SPORT HOTEL
    Your Basecamp for Adventure

The sun is setting in the west; the moon is rising over Donner Summit, and a pink alpine glow shines off of the horizon’s contour with a light that wakes up your wild side. You feel free you are here in the mountains of Nevada and California’s High Sierra. Welcome to Truckee, where the air is crisp, the water clear, and the adventure has no end. One of California’s oldest towns, Truckee, hosts a vibrant nightlife, foodie vibe, and undying adventure spirit, connecting you to the natives, settlers, and miners who experienced the same Sierra Nevada freedom so many years ago. In Spring and Summer, today’s explorers can summit a variety of mountain peaks, enjoy a kayak paddle on our many alpine lakes, or take in our growing art and cultural scene. In the winter, we all are here for the snow. The Truckee/Tahoe area hosts 13 ski resorts, and the Cedar House sits just minutes from Northstar California, Olympic Valley, and unlimited backcountry access. No matter what your soul yearns, Truckee will have something for you…it is your base camp for adventure and living your best life.

    TAHOE WHITEWATER TOURS
Tahoe Whitewater Tours has been in operation in the North Lake Tahoe region since 1994, creating smiles and lasting memories through whitewater adventures. With over 20 years of experience as whitewater outfitters, they specialize in rafting, kayaking, float tube adventures, and good old-fashioned fun. Tahoe Whitewater Tours believes that spending time in the outdoors is a crucial part of enjoying life to the fullest and that experiencing natural environments brings real value to life. They believe that the best way to experience the outdoors is through spending time on a river. Floating through meandering meadows, under towering trees, and through tall canyons does something special to the psyche. It is our goal to provide you with the most memorable river experience possible, to create more than a day on the river, and to create a positive emotional connection to the outdoors. We want you to immerse your senses, to capture the feeling of warm sun on your skin, cool crisp mountain water splashing through the boat, and the sounds of thrilling rapids around the bend. To create an experience unlike anywhere else. Let their guides introduce you to the serenity a river can bring as they take you down some of the best whitewater in the West.

    HISTORIC DOWNTOWN TRUCKEE
The Historic Downtown Truckee district parallels Interstate 80 east of Donner Pass and Donner Lake. Its roots date back to the 1860s when Truckee became a railroad and lumber town connecting Reno and Sacramento. And while parts of the town burned down in the early years, much of Truckee’s original charm remains. Historic and Old West-inspired buildings line both sides of Donner Pass Road in downtown Truckee. These aesthetic buildings back-dropped by mountains offer a scenic attraction and a fun place to stroll the
day away. Modern businesses inhibit these old storefronts and the sidewalks bustle throughout the summer. Restaurants, clothing boutiques, and art galleries comprise much of the traffic in this part of town. Other specialty stores, like gear shops and espresso bars, are also prevalent. Downtown is also the place to go for some of Truckee’s biggest events. Truckee Thursdays are one gathering not to miss, occurring throughout the evening in the summer. This weekly festival closes the street down to vehicle traffic and features live music and outdoor vendors.

    DONNER PASS RAILROAD TUNNEL HIKE
Hiking the Donner Pass train tunnels in the summer or fall months is ideal. The railroad tunnels on Donner Pass provide, unquestionably, one of the most unique hiking experiences at Lake Tahoe. The Donner Pass train tunnels are fun for the whole family, particularly younger kids who find playing in the dark thrilling. But with that darkness comes the inherent risk of tripping and falling. So, bring with you a flashlight or headlamp to assist you on your journey. That said, the tunnel system on Donner Pass is a must-see series of disconnected tunnels.

    KIDZONE MUSEUM
Originally founded in 1992, the Sierra Nevada Children’s Museum (aka KidZone Museum) was the brainchild of a coalition of parents, agencies, and educators in Truckee. The museum has over 30,000 visitors annually and is considered most optimal for children under the age of 7. Throughout the year there is a full schedule of camps, school programs, exhibits, and volunteer opportunities for the community and visitors to take part in. The KidZone Museum is considered a bilingual building and welcomes families that speak either English or Spanish with open arms.
